The days till Christmas are now upon us all. I am sure everyone has been going through their lists and filling them with gifts for their loved ones far and wide. Our thought is that we all ought to try not to clog people's inboxes and mailboxes with presents. It's my view that God wants us all to think within ourselves, to make ourselves BETTER and not to better others at giving gifts.
Isn't it better for one's soul to improve itself than trying to improve our standing within our circle of friends and peers? Like keeping up with the Joneses. Shouldn't we all be thinking about the ways we all can better our lives and the lives of our families? Is it not the way it was back when Jesus was a tiny wee babe? Or perhaps not. In those days, everyone was a miscreant and everyone was going into Hell hot and heavy.
Jesus was the One who got us out of Babylon. But now, Jesus isn't even the focus of Christmas in the modern, first-world consciousness. We have left Jesus in the Manger and went off on a buying spree for ourselves, mostly, and for those who we think will increase our standing in the material world.
Possessions don't make us, they destroy us and what we are inside. And, possessions may even mean people whom we have collected into our homes and lives and offices. Those cliques and whatnot. What are they but a reflection of our worst selves? We gossip and make others who aren't like us the butt of our jokes. We must realize that what we do and THINK and say are the evidence that will come up against us in the Day of Judgment.
We don't wish everyone to feel sad about how their lives have gone. We want our lives to IMPROVE. We want our THOUGHTS to improve. We can't just go around hating everyone, especially those who are innocent and unable to defend themselves. There is NO ONE that hates with their conscious thoughts that ever gets what they really want - Heaven. It is all there is in the end - GOD and HEAVEN. If we don't have a relationship with GOD, then we are all lost. We must try to find ways to get in touch with Him, to make Him the center of our lives. And bring others to Him so He can give them His blessing.
For those who aren't sure where to start, why not get a daily contemplative book about God? Fulton Sheen has one of them in his large armamentarium of books. So does a lot of others that have already gone ahead of us into the Heavenly portals.
